Michael Franti joins Feast it Forward at BottleRock Napa to discuss music, life and what giving back means to him through his Do It For The Love Foundation“. Followed by his interview, a special acoustic set was enjoyed by a 2015 foundation wish grant, alongside her supportive daughter.
The Do it for the Love Foundation was created by Michael and Sara Franti just short of two years ago. Michael describes the Foundation as, “Kind of like the Make a Wish Foundation with music. We bring people with advanced stages of life threatening illness, children and adults with special needs, and wounded veterans to live concerts. Music can bring out emotions I never knew existed at times. U2 helped me get over the passing of my father 10 years ago on this weekend. Every time I start to feel stuck, sad, or depressed, it would help me cry.”
Sara explains, “This Foundation was started on emotion. We had this amazing time meeting this couple Hope and Steve, you can see a video of what they’re about here. We really believe that the people that we’ve met through this journey has helped given us give the strength to get through this as well. As we see these strong people,we see the importance of the support. The thing about this Foundation is that it’s not just about a one night experience, it’s that it builds a community and that people who become recipients know there’s a greater community out there who care about them and believe in them, which is really great.”
